Resource: Community Leaders Survey 2023

The Community Leaders Survey was published at the end of September 2023 and I was invited to provide additional expert commentary alongside community specialists and leaders including Rosie Sherry, Vincent Boon, Nicole Saunders and others.

The 100+ page free report is packed full of community building insight and data.

It’s a useful resource for business leaders seeking to understand why online communities are worth investing in and community leaders in search of data, insights and inspiration.

Here are just a couple of findings from the report:

The C-suite are becoming more heavily involved in community

Chart showing the extent to which the C-Suite get involved in community. 52.3% particpate in the community, 41.5% are involved in planning, 41.5% help promote the community, 36.9% invest in community, 24.6% review performance, 16.9% not involved

C-Suite and business leaders are increasingly involved in community through investment, planning, promotion and participation. It’s encouraging data.

The key priorities for community leaders in 2024 are community growth, satisfaction, team expansion and empowering stakeholders

Community growth and community member satisfaction dominate objectives for 2024 from Community Leaders. Other data in the report shows that investment in community was the second largest challenge and internal collaboration also figured highly..

The launch event explored key themes in community strategy

It was lovely to catchup with old friends and make new ones at the launch event at the RSA, London.

I joined a panel with Madeleine Milne, Kian Bhaktari and we discussed community metrics that matter, Gen Z communities and talent communities, getting executive buy-in and ways to get your communities ‘unstuck’ when they get a little stodgy.

I was asked to share a couple of examples of “authentic communities” so I highlighted Shereen Daniel’s brilliant community of purpose - The Anti Racism Innovation Community.

I also spoke about Community Based Marketing.

We were followed by Blaise Grimes-Viort, Richard Gott and Laura Roth who answered questions about community technology, automation and where community should sit within an organisation.

Hopefully some of the conversation will be shared online soon.

Thanks to Pete Heslop and The Steadfast Collective for adding to the global community benchmarking data available and for asking me to contribute.

The report is a great read and is hopefully the start of a more detailed community industry view in 2024/5.
